Classroom Supervisor and SEND Teaching Assistant – Get Into Teaching
Start Your Journey in Local Schools
Thinking about a career in teaching or education but not sure where to start?
Maybe you’re a graduate, a career-changer, or someone who loves working with young people and wants hands-on experience before taking the next step.
At Protocol Education, we work closely with a number of local secondary schools who are looking for the right people to support their pupils right now. In return, you’ll gain valuable classroom experience, confidence, and clarity about where your future in education could go.
The roles
We’re currently recruiting for Cover Supervisors and SEND Teaching Assistants, and for some people, a hybrid of the two roles could be the perfect fit.
You’ll be working in partnered secondary schools across Wakefield, supporting students, building relationships, and becoming a familiar, trusted face in the classroom.
Who we’re looking for
You don’t need to be a qualified teacher. We’re far more interested in the person you are and the attitude you bring.
You might be a great fit if you:
-
Have experience working with young people, whether that’s in schools, sports coaching, youth work, volunteering or similar
-
Have knowledge or experience of SEND, or a strong interest in supporting pupils with additional needs
-
️ Feel confident leading a classroom, delivering pre-set work and keeping students engaged
-
Have aspirations to become a teacher or build a long-term career in education
-
Are reliable, adaptable and genuinely passionate about supporting children and young people
⏰ Hours and contracts
-
Our SEND Teaching Assistant vacancies require applicants to be available full time, Monday to Friday (8am – 3pm) in secondary school settings
-
Cover supervisor contracts can be flexible, with a minimum requirement of 3 days per week, as well as full-time contracted cover supervisor roles being available (8am – 3pm) in secondary schools
What you’ll get in return
This isn’t just a job, it’s a stepping stone into education done the right way.
With Protocol Education, you’ll receive:
-
Cover supervisor and behaviour management training, so you’re prepared and confident from day one
-
Ongoing career guidance and honest advice from your dedicated consultant, who actually gets to know you
-
Experience in secondary schools we know well and trust, not just a random placement
-
Opportunities that build towards teacher training, SEND specialisms, psychology, youth work or wider education careers
-
Paid, meaningful work that strengthens your CV and helps you stand out when you’re ready for the next step
Many of the educators who start with us use these roles as their launchpad into teaching and long-term education careers. We’ll support you every step of the way.
