This welcoming primary school sits at the heart of its local community and is committed to helping every child grow into a confident, capable, and kind individual. The school believes that with the right support, encouragement, and high expectations, all children can succeed, both academically and personally.

The ethos is built around aspiration, belief, and achievement. Children are encouraged to aim high, feel proud of who they are, and develop the skills they need for life beyond the classroom. Learning is nurtured in a safe, inclusive environment where children feel valued, listened to, and supported every step of the way.

The school places a strong emphasis on character development alongside learning. It works hard to broaden pupils’ experiences, celebrate diversity, and help children understand themselves and others. Clear routines, consistent expectations, and strong relationships underpin everything, helping children feel secure and ready to learn.

The role

Protocol Education is working in partnership with a primary school in Walsall to recruit a Behaviour Support Assistant to support pupils with social, emotional, and behavioural needs.

This role is ideal for someone calm, patient, and consistent, who understands that behaviour is communication. You’ll work closely with class teachers and pastoral staff to help children regulate emotions, manage behaviour positively, and remain engaged in learning. Progress may be gradual, but your presence will make a real difference to children’s daily experience of school.

Key responsibilities

  • Supporting pupils with SEMH and behavioural needs on a one-to-one and small group basis

  • Helping children develop emotional regulation, resilience, and positive coping strategies

  • Using calm, consistent de-escalation techniques to manage challenging behaviour

  • Building trusting relationships so children feel safe, understood, and supported

  • Working closely with teachers, pastoral staff, and families to support individual behaviour plans

  • Encouraging positive behaviour, independence, and engagement throughout the school day

About the school

The school is focused on:

  • Creating a safe, nurturing, and inclusive environment where children feel secure

  • Helping pupils develop confidence, independence, and pride in themselves

  • Promoting respect, kindness, and understanding of differences

  • Embedding clear routines and high expectations to support positive behaviour

  • Working closely with families to support wellbeing, attendance, and long-term outcomes

Pastoral care is central to the school’s approach, with staff working together to ensure children feel supported both emotionally and academically. The curriculum is engaging, accessible, and designed to help children build confidence, resilience, and essential life skills.

We’re looking for someone who:

  • Has experience supporting children with SEMH, behavioural challenges, or additional needs

  • Brings a calm, patient, and resilient approach, even during challenging moments

  • Understands the importance of consistency, empathy, and clear boundaries

  • Works well as part of a team and communicates effectively with staff and families

  • Is genuinely motivated to help children thrive, in school and beyond

This is a fantastic opportunity for anyone interested in behaviour support, youth work, psychology, education, or SEND, who wants to make a meaningful difference day to day within a primary school setting.
