We are seeking a committed Teaching Assistant to support pupils within a specialist education setting in Gateshead. This provision supports children and young people who require a personalised approach to learning due to social, emotional and behavioural needs.

You will work closely with teaching staff to support pupils’ academic progress, emotional regulation and engagement in a calm, structured environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide 1:1 and small group support for pupils with SEMH needs.

  • Assist with the delivery of personalised learning programmes.

  • Support behaviour management strategies and emotional regulation.

  • Build positive, trusting relationships with pupils.

  • Work collaboratively with teachers and pastoral staff.

Skills & Experience

  • Experience working with children or young people in education or care.

  • Understanding of SEMH or behavioural needs is desirable.

  • Calm, patient and resilient approach.

  • Teaching Assistant qualification is beneficial but not essential.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
