Protocol Education are currently recruiting support workers from residential and care backgrounds to work in an outstanding special needs school located in Darlington. This  school are looking for individuals who have experience working with students with special needs and who can apply their skills in an education setting. This special needs school caters to learners with needs that include autism, speech & language difficulties, behavioural needs and physical disabilities. As a support worker you will be working within a classe of 6 - 8 students, supporting the class teacher and supporting students on a one-to-one basis. The role will require you to develop speech & language, differentiate the work to meet the student’s needs, teach numeracy & literacy, explore and encourage sensory learning, teach life skills, support learners in the community, developing social awareness and also support students in work programs. All students will have an individualised learning program that is catered and targeted specifically to student’s needs. You will be working collaboratively with the class teacher to ensure goals and targets are met. This role is long term role starting from September with a view to continue for the academic year and longer if you choose.  

The role:

  • Located in Darlington
  • Full time - Monday to Thursday, with the option of working Fridays
  • Supporting students in class ranging from 6 - 8 students per class
  • Developing student's academic and social skills through creative approaches such as art or music
  • Supporting students within the community and preparing students for work placements

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
