Start Date: Immediate
Are you calm, creative, and fascinated by how children experience the world through their senses?
We’re looking for a Sensory Learning Support Mentor to join a nurturing specialist school in South Shields. This role is all about helping pupils with complex needs connect, communicate, and learn in ways that make sense to them.
You’ll be part of a kind, collaborative team who believe that learning can happen anywhere — in the classroom, in a sensory room, or through a smile that says, “I did it!”. Every day brings moments of joy, challenge, and genuine progress.
What you’ll be doing:
-
Supporting pupils aged 3–19 with sensory, physical, and learning needs
-
Assisting with sensory-based activities that encourage curiosity, comfort, and connection
-
Working closely with teachers, therapists, and support staff to create engaging, multi-sensory experiences
-
Helping pupils develop communication, independence, and confidence through touch, sound, light, and movement
-
Providing gentle personal care and supporting daily routines when required
What we’re looking for:
-
Experience supporting children or young people with SEND (especially PMLD or autism)
-
A calm, patient, and observant approach
-
Creativity and a willingness to adapt learning to each child’s sensory needs
-
Strong communication skills and a positive, team-focused attitude
-
A genuine passion for making learning accessible and meaningful for every pupil
