Some teaching jobs change timetables.
This one changes lives.

We’re working with a brilliant specialist secondary school in Durham that supports young people with autism and profound and multiple learning difficulties. They’re looking for a calm, compassionate teacher who understands that progress doesn’t always look like neat exercise books, and that the smallest wins can mean everything.

This is a setting where relationships come first. Communication looks different. Learning is creative, sensory, and deeply personalised. And every member of staff genuinely pulls together.

What your days will look like:

  • Teaching small classes of secondary-aged pupils with complex needs

  • Adapting learning to suit individual communication styles and sensory profiles

  • Working closely with TAs, therapists, and a supportive leadership team

  • Creating a safe, structured space where pupils feel understood and valued

  • Celebrating progress that others might miss, but you never do

This role could be a great fit if you:

  • Have QTS, or relevant teaching experience in a SEND or specialist setting

  • Are confident supporting pupils with autism and PMLD

  • Bring patience, empathy, and a steady presence into the classroom

  • Believe behaviour is communication, not a problem to be fixed

  • Want to work somewhere that values people over paperwork

Why this school?

  • Purpose-built specialist environment

  • Strong staff support and excellent teamwork

  • A leadership team that understands SEND realities

  • Space to teach creatively, not just deliver content

  • A real sense of “we’ve got your back”

What Protocol Education offers you:

  • Weekly pay through PAYE, no umbrella faff

  • Free access to our CPD Academy

  • A dedicated SEND consultant who actually listens

  • Ongoing roles in specialist settings that value you

  • Clear communication and honest support throughout

If you’re Thrive trained, brilliant, schools love it. If not, we can get you onto our free Thrive training, it’s a real plus in specialist settings like this.
