If you’re the kind of person who stays calm when things get loud, notices the little wins, and genuinely enjoys helping young people find their confidence, this role could be a brilliant fit.

A welcoming school in Gateshead is looking for a caring and reliable SEND Teaching Assistant to join their team. The school supports pupils with a range of additional needs, from autism and communication differences to sensory and emotional needs. No two days are the same, but the impact you make is felt every single day.

What the role involves

You’ll be working closely with teachers and support staff to help pupils access learning in a way that works for them. That might look like:

  • creating a calm, structured space for pupils who need routine

  • supporting communication through visuals, prompts, and modelling

  • helping pupils regulate during tricky moments

  • celebrating progress, even when it’s tiny

  • building trusting relationships that help pupils feel safe

What the school hopes you’ll bring

They’re looking for someone who is patient, curious, and willing to learn. Experience with SEND is helpful, but the right attitude is even more important.

If you’ve worked in care, youth work, mentoring, or any role supporting people with additional needs, you’ll have lots of transferable skills. A calm approach and good communication go a long way here.
