SEND Support Assistant – Gateshead (Secondary)

What the role looks like as a SEND Support Assistant

You’ll work with pupils across KS3 and KS4 who benefit from tailored support. Some may need help settling into lessons, others may need encouragement with routines or emotional regulation. You’ll be part of a supportive SEND team who value kindness, teamwork and consistency.

You’ll provide a mixture of in-class, one-to-one and small-group support.

  • Supporting learners with a variety of SEND needs
  • Helping pupils manage behaviour, routines and transitions
  • Building positive working relationships with students
  • Working closely with teachers, SENCOs and pastoral teams
  • Encouraging engagement and confidence in lessons
  • Being a calm, reassuring presence throughout the school day

What you’ll bring as a SEND Support Assistant

  • Experience supporting young people with SEND or SEMH needs
  • A patient, thoughtful and adaptable approach
  • Clear communication and strong teamwork skills
  • Confidence supporting pupils with different needs and abilities
  • An enhanced DBS on the Update Service, or willingness to apply
