A friendly and inclusive school in Durham is searching for an SEN Teaching Assistant for an immediate start who can bring patience, positivity, and consistency to their team. If you enjoy helping pupils who need a bit more support to feel settled and confident, this role could be a brilliant fit.

About the role

You’ll work closely with pupils who have additional learning or emotional needs, helping them take part in lessons and daily routines. Every day is different, and your support will play a huge part in helping pupils feel safe and ready to learn.

Your responsibilities as a SEN Teaching Assistant 

 

  • Supporting pupils on a 1:1 or small-group basis throughout the school day

  • Using agreed strategies to help with behaviour, focus, and emotional regulation

  • Encouraging pupils to build confidence, independence, and positive relationships

  • Helping create a calm classroom environment where every child feels included

  • Working closely with teachers, the SENCO, and other staff to support consistent progress

Requirements

 

  • Experience working with children or young people, ideally in an SEN setting

  • A calm, steady approach to behaviour and emotional challenges

  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills

  • A genuine desire to help pupils feel safe and supported
