We are supporting an incredible SEN school in Durham that is looking for a Teaching Assistant who can bring patience, empathy, and a steady presence to the classroom. The school works with pupils who have a range of additional needs, and they are looking for someone who enjoys helping children feel secure, understood, and ready to learn.

What you’ll be doing as a Teaching Assistant in  SEN school

  • Assisting pupils with their learning across the school day, both in class and in small groups.

  • Helping pupils follow routines and stay engaged in ways that suit their individual needs.

  • Working closely with teachers and support staff to implement strategies that help each pupil thrive.

  • Encouraging independence, confidence, and positive communication.

What the school is looking for

  • Someone with a calm, caring attitude who enjoys working with children.

  • An interest in supporting pupils with special educational needs.

  • Good communication skills and a willingness to work as part of a team.

  • Experience is helpful, but it isn’t essential. The right mindset and a genuine desire to support young people are what matter most.
