Do you enjoy being the calm voice, the patient presence and the person who helps a pupil feel safe enough to learn? A specialist school in Gateshead is looking for a SEN Teaching Assistant who brings warmth, curiosity and consistency to every day.

This is a brilliant role for someone who loves getting to know pupils as individuals and who isn’t fazed when things go off-script. You’ll be supporting children with a range of additional needs, helping them navigate routines, learning tasks and social moments.

What you'll be doing

  • Supporting pupils with diverse SEND needs, including autism, communication differences and sensory needs

  • Helping pupils access learning in ways that suit their strengths

  • Encouraging independence and confidence through gentle, structured support

  • Collaborating with teachers, therapists and the SENCO to keep support consistent

  • Using patience, empathy and creative strategies to turn tricky moments into positive ones

What we’re looking for

  • Experience supporting children or young people with SEND

  • Someone who notices the small things, works calmly and builds trust easily

  • A team player who enjoys contributing to a nurturing school community

  • A positive communicator who wants to help pupils thrive

  • An interest in developing your SEND skills further, with training provided

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
