Job Title: Male SEN Teaching Assistant – Secondary School
Location: Barking/Illford
Salary: £100-1105 per day, depending on experience
Contract: Full-time, Long-term
Start Date: ASAP
Some students just need the right person in their corner.
We’re working with a supportive secondary school looking for a confident, experienced SEN Teaching Assistant to provide 1:1 support for pupils with additional needs.
This isn’t a “sit at the back and observe” role. You’ll be right there in it, building trust, setting boundaries, celebrating small wins, and helping a young person feel safe, understood and ready to learn.
If you’ve got solid SEN experience and you’re calm under pressure, this one’s worth a look.
What you’ll be doing:
-
Providing dedicated 1:1 support to a secondary-aged pupil
-
Supporting students with SEN, including ASD, ADHD, SEMH or behavioural needs
-
Helping regulate emotions and promote positive behaviour
-
Working closely with the SENCO and pastoral team
-
Creating a safe, structured and encouraging learning environment
What we’re looking for:
-
Experience working in SEN settings, ideally within a secondary school
-
Strong 1:1 support experience
-
A valid enhanced DBS on the update service, or willingness to obtain one
-
Confidence, resilience and a calm, consistent approach
-
Someone who builds respect through relationships, not raised voices
You’ll need to be firm but fair. Approachable but consistent. The kind of role model who makes students feel secure and supported.
