SEN Teaching Assistant

Protocol Education are looking for a fantastic new SEN Teaching Assistant to join our team to work in schools in Leeds and the surrounding areas. 

Location: Leeds

Job Type: Contract, expected to work up to Full-Time hours

Primary Industry: Education and Training

Salary: £77 - £90 Per day

Qualifications (desired): Level 2 Teaching Assistant, Level 3 Teaching Assistant

Skills: 1 to 1 support, Intervention groups

Job Duties:

  • Provide support to students with special educational needs (SEN) in an educational setting
  • Assist the teacher in implementing individualised education programmes (IEPs) for students with SEN
  • Deliver 1 to 1 support to students, helping them with their learning and development
  • Facilitate intervention groups to support students' specific needs and promote their progress
  • Help students with their daily activities, including personal care, if required
  • Assist in creating a positive and inclusive learning environment for all students
  • Collaborate with the teacher and other professionals to assess students' needs and develop appropriate strategies
  • Monitor and track students' progress, providing feedback to the teacher and parents/guardians
  • Manage behaviour and ensure students' safety and well-being during school hours
  • Participate in training and professional development activities to enhance skills and knowledge in supporting students with SEN
  • Maintain accurate records and documentation related to students' progress and support provided

Desired Qualifications:

  • Level 2 Teaching Assistant qualification
  • Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification

Education:

A minimum of Level 2 Teaching Assistant or Childcare qualification

Experience:

Prior experience in providing support to students with special educational needs (SEN) is preferred

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Strong understanding of SEN and the associated challenges and strategies
  • Ability to deliver 1 to 1 support and facilitate intervention groups effectively
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate with teachers, parents/guardians, and other professionals
  • Patience, empathy, and resilience in working with students with diverse needs
  • Organisational skills to maintain accurate records and documentation
  • Knowledge of safeguarding procedures and ability to ensure students' safety and well-being

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Additional certifications or training in special education or SEN support
  • Experience in using specific interventions and strategies for students with SEN

Working Conditions:

The SEN Teaching Assistant will work in an educational setting, primarily within classrooms and other learning environments. The role involves frequent interaction with students, teachers, and other professionals. The work hours are full-time, as per the contracted agreement. The candidate should be prepared to work in a dynamic and sometimes challenging environment while ensuring the well-being and progress of students with special educational needs.
