Looking for a role where you can make a real difference to one child’s school experience? A wonderful school in Gateshead is looking for a calm, committed SEN 1:1 Teaching Assistant to support a pupil who needs a steady, understanding presence to help them feel safe, focused, and ready to learn.

About the role

You’ll work closely with one pupil each day, helping them navigate lessons, routines, and social moments in a way that feels supportive and manageable.

You will:

  • Provide consistent 1:1 support for a pupil with SEND and SEMH needs

  • Follow their personalised learning plan and behaviour strategies

  • Create a calm, structured environment where the pupil can learn without pressure

  • Help build confidence, communication skills, and emotional regulation

  • Support the pupil through challenging moments with de-escalation and empathy

  • Work closely with the class teacher, SENCO, and wider support team

 

Requirements for working as a SEN Teaching Assistant

  • Experience working with children or young people, ideally with SEND

  • A calm, positive, and resilient approach

  • Confidence supporting behaviour using agreed strategies

  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills
