Are you an experienced SEND Teaching Assistant with experience of working with primary pupils in the PMLD / ASD / Complex Needs sector? Protocol Education want to hear from you!

Protocol Education have a vacancy for a SEND Teaching Assistant / Enabler at a well respected specialist school in Newcastle working with children with PMLD aged 5 to 19. The pupils have very complex needs and many are non-verbal and require peg feeding and intimate care. The classrooms have no more than 8 pupils who benefit from excellent sensory activities and very compassionate care.

This fantastic specialist school uses a range of innovative teaching methods to help their students make the most of their learning and sensory experience. It's large and well resourced school with a fantastic atmosphere upon entering the grounds. Situated in close to central Newcastle and with excellent links to public transport the school is easily accessible.

The role is five days a week, full time and for the right candidate will become permanent. The position is general in-class support - you may be expected to work one to one, in small groups or providing general in-class support as required. Experience of working with children with PMLD is essential and you will be expected to do personal care as well as manual handling. Many of the children are non verbal and the ability to use Makaton would be highly advantageous.
