Protocol Education is working in partnership with a specialist SEN school in Pilning to recruit a full-time SEN Teaching Assistant to support children and young people aged 7–19 with autism and associated social communication needs.

This specialist setting supports pupils from Key Stage 2 through to post-16, providing a calm, structured and nurturing environment where every child is encouraged to explore and fulfil their own potential.
The school places a strong emphasis on wellbeing, independence and personalised learning. Staff work closely together as part of a multi-disciplinary team to ensure pupils feel safe, supported and ready to learn.
The role
As an SEN Teaching Assistant, you’ll play a vital role in supporting pupils with their learning, wellbeing and personal development. You’ll work closely with teachers and other professionals to ensure every pupil has the best possible opportunity to succeed.
This is a varied and rewarding role, supporting pupils both academically and emotionally, and at times assisting with personal care and positive behaviour support, always using a tailored, child-centred approach.
Your responsibilities will include:

Supporting the delivery of a broad, balanced and differentiated curriculum

Working alongside the Class Teacher to support the day-to-day running of the classroom

Supporting pupils’ cognitive, social, emotional and physical development

Working collaboratively as part of a multi-professional team

Completing records and documentation related to wellbeing, behaviour or incidents when required

Being flexible and ready to support across the school as needed
No two days are the same, so a positive, adaptable and hands-on approach is essential.

You’ll ideally have:

GCSE Maths and English at Level 2 / Grade C or above

An understanding of safeguarding and child protection procedures

Experience or knowledge of working with pupils with SEN

A child-centred, patient and caring approach

Creativity and positivity when supporting individual needs
Desirable (but not essential):

Level 3 qualification in Supporting Teaching and Learning (or equivalent)

At least one year’s experience working as a Teaching Assistant
