SEN Class Teacher Primary 

Location: South Bristol

Protocol Education is working closely with a specialist SEN school in South Bristol to recruit a dedicated Primary SEN Class Teacher to join their supportive and experienced team.

About the school

The school supports children and young people aged 7–19 with autism and associated social communication needs. Pupils learn within a calm, structured, and nurturing environment, with a strong focus on wellbeing, independence, and preparation for adulthood.

Learning pathways include GCSEs, Functional Skills, Entry Level, and vocational accreditations. Behaviour is well supported, with staff working collaboratively alongside pastoral, clinical, and SEND teams to ensure pupils feel safe, understood, and ready to learn.

The role

This is a fantastic opportunity for an enthusiastic and committed SEN Class Teacher who enjoys making a real difference.

You’ll deliver high-quality teaching to pupils with autism and additional needs such as ADHD, OCD, and PDA. Some pupils may also have multiple learning difficulties. Progress in this setting goes beyond academics, you’ll also support pupils’ social, emotional, and life skills development, helping them grow into confident and resilient learners.

Depending on experience and preference, the role can be tailored to primary or secondary-aged pupils.

You’ll also:

  • Plan and deliver engaging lessons across a range of accreditation pathways

  • Adapt teaching to meet individual needs and learning styles

  • Support pupils to develop independence in and beyond the classroom

  • Work closely with Teaching Assistants and HLTAs to support learning

  • Collaborate with pastoral, clinical, and SEND professionals

  • Follow and uphold safeguarding, wellbeing, and equality policies

  • Be flexible and ready to support the wider school community when required

What we’re looking for

The school is keen to hear from teachers who genuinely enjoy working in specialist SEN settings.

You’ll need:

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)

  • Experience teaching at primary or secondary level

  • Experience delivering GCSE, Functional Skills, or Entry Level qualifications (desirable but not essential)

  • A strong understanding of autism and how it impacts learning

  • Confidence adapting the curriculum to meet individual needs

  • Knowledge of visual strategies and approaches for anxious or reluctant learners

  • A calm, nurturing, and consistent approach
