SEMH Teaching Assistant – Primary

About the role
We’re seeking a caring and resilient SEMH Teaching Assistant to support primary pupils with social, emotional, and behavioural needs in a nurturing specialist environment. The school provides a structured and supportive approach to help every child feel safe, valued, and ready to learn.

Your day-to-day

  • Support pupils in small groups or 1:1, helping them access learning and manage emotions.

  • Encourage positive behaviour and social interaction through clear boundaries and consistent routines.

  • Work closely with teachers, behaviour mentors, and families to promote stability and progress.

  • Use de-escalation and positive reinforcement strategies to support emotional wellbeing.

  • Help create a calm, engaging, and inclusive classroom environment.

What we’re looking for

  • Experience supporting children with SEMH or behavioural needs is helpful but not required.

  • Compassion, patience, and resilience are essential.

  • Strong communication skills and the ability to build trust quickly.

  • Commitment to safeguarding and inclusive practice.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
