About the Role:
We are looking for a dedicated SEMH Teaching Assistant to join our team and provide personalized support for students with SEMH needs. You will work closely with students, both 1:1 and in small groups, ensuring they receive the guidance and care they need to succeed both academically and personally.
Key Responsibilities:
- 1:1 and Small-Group Support: Provide tailored support during core subjects, particularly in areas that students find challenging, keeping them engaged and on track.
- Literacy Intervention: Lead targeted literacy sessions (3-4 times a week, 20-40 minutes each) to help students improve their reading and writing skills and boost their confidence.
- Learning Mentoring: Conduct weekly sessions to help students explore their feelings around learning, providing emotional support to help them overcome challenges.
- Progress and Behaviour Tracking: Implement a visual chart system to track students’ academic progress and behaviour. Help students check in with their chart daily and celebrate their successes. Progress will be shared with parents weekly, focusing on positive reinforcement.
- Emotional Literacy Intervention: Deliver sessions that guide students in identifying and expressing their emotions in a constructive way, fostering emotional resilience.
- Social Skills Development: Facilitate small-group sessions to develop peer relationships, navigate peer pressure, and build important friendship skills.
- Therapeutic Support: Provide 1:1 therapeutic interventions, helping students manage their emotions, increase self-awareness, and develop effective coping strategies.
- Life Skills and PSHE Support: Assist in teaching a PSHE curriculum that focuses on life skills, preparing students for real-world challenges.

- A caring individual with a strong passion for supporting children with SEMH needs.
- Experience working in a school or SEMH setting is highly beneficial.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to connect with students and staff.
- A patient, calm, and resilient approach to working with students, especially when managing challenging behaviours.
- Creativity and enthusiasm in developing engaging and meaningful learning experiences for students.
- Excellent organizational skills to maintain records of progress and behaviour.
