SEMH Teaching Assistant – PRU Setting (South Tyneside)
Pay: £89 to £110 per day
Start: Immediate
Contract: Long-term
This role is perfect if you understand that behaviour isn’t “bad”, it’s communication.
You’ll support young people who may experience high levels of anxiety, frustration or disengagement, helping them rediscover success in a safe, structured environment. Small groups, predictable routines and consistent adults make all the difference here.
Your responsibilities:
• Supporting learners through anxiety, frustration and transitions
• Helping them re-engage with learning at a pace that suits them
• Using trauma-informed strategies and de-escalation
• Encouraging positive choices without judgement
• Working closely with teachers, mentors and therapeutic staff
We’re looking for someone who:
• Builds relationships before expectations
• Has worked in PRUs, SEMH, care or youth settings
• Can handle tough moments without losing compassion
• Understands that every pupil needs a fresh start each morning
A brilliant role for someone who believes in young people even when they don’t believe in themselves.
