Looking for a role where you can make a real difference to one young person every single day? This specialist SEMH school in Gateshead is searching for a calm, confident and compassionate Behaviour Support Assistant to join their team, working 1:1 with a pupil who needs consistent, trusting support.

This isn’t just classroom work, it’s relationship building, helping a young person feel safe, understood and ready to learn.

What you’ll be doing

  • Providing steady, tailored 1:1 support for a pupil with social, emotional and mental health needs

  • Using de-escalation techniques and trauma-informed practice to guide behaviour positively

  • Working closely with teachers, the SENCo and pastoral staff to create a safe routine

  • Supporting with transitions, movement breaks and personalised learning activities

  • Helping the pupil build confidence, emotional resilience and a sense of belonging

  • Experience supporting children or young people with SEMH, SEND or challenging behaviour

  • A calm, patient approach with genuinely strong relationship-building skills

  • Someone who can stay steady when days feel a bit messy
