About the Role

We are seeking a resilient and adaptable Secondary Teacher to work within a specialist alternative education setting in Gateshead. This role supports pupils who require a more personalised approach to learning due to social, emotional and behavioural needs.

The setting provides a structured, supportive environment focused on re-engagement, confidence building and preparing pupils for their next steps. This role is ideal for teachers who value relationships, flexibility and making a meaningful impact.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan and deliver engaging, differentiated lessons tailored to individual needs.

  • Support pupils with SEMH and behavioural challenges.

  • Create a calm, consistent and positive learning environment.

  • Monitor and assess pupil progress and engagement.

  • Work collaboratively with teaching assistants and pastoral staff.

  • Promote pupils’ personal development and readiness for next steps.

Skills & Experience

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) is essential.

  • Experience in alternative provision, PRU or SEMH settings is desirable.

  • Strong behaviour management and communication skills.

  • Calm, flexible and relationship-focused teaching style.

  • Resilient and reflective approach to practice.
