Secondary SEND Teacher – Life Skills & Functional Learning

Location: Sunderland
Contract: Full time, long term
Start: ASAP
Pay: MPS/UPS (PAYE)

This specialist school is looking for a creative, flexible Secondary SEND Teacher to support pupils with autism and communication needs who follow life-skills and functional learning pathways.

If you enjoy teaching practical skills, building confidence and creating warm, structured environments, this role will suit you down to the ground.

Your responsibilities:

  • Teaching functional English, Maths and life-skills to small groups

  • Adapting lessons with visuals, routines and calm transitions

  • Supporting pupils in developing independence and confidence

  • Working closely with TAs and therapists

  • Building strong relationships that help pupils feel safe and understood

Flexibility is desired:
You may move between classes or pathways depending on need.

You’ll be a great match if:

  • You have QTS and experience with SEND, ASC or SEMH

  • You’re patient, creative and enjoy hands-on learning

  • You value connection, routine and clear communication

  • You’re happy teaching across subjects when required

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
