As a Special Educational Needs (SEN) Teaching Assistant, you will play a crucial role in supporting the learning and development of students with special educational needs. Working closely with the SEN Coordinator or Class Teacher, you will contribute to creating an inclusive and supportive learning environment that enables all students to reach their full potential. This role requires a compassionate and patient individual with a genuine interest in helping children overcome barriers to learning.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Individualised Support:

    • Provide one-to-one or small group support to students with special educational needs, adapting teaching methods to suit individual learning styles.
    • Implement strategies outlined in Individual Education Plans (IEPs) to address specific learning goals and support academic progress.
  2. Classroom Assistance:

    • Collaborate with teachers to assist in the planning and delivery of lessons, ensuring that materials and activities are accessible to all students.
    • Foster an inclusive classroom environment by promoting positive interactions and peer relationships.
  3. Behavioural Support:

    • Support students in managing their behaviour, implementing behaviour management plans, and promoting positive social interactions.
    • Observe and report any changes in behaviour or emotional well-being to the SEN Coordinator or appropriate staff.
  4. Communication:

    • Maintain open and effective communication with parents, teachers, and other professionals involved in the students' care.
    • Attend and actively contribute to team meetings, sharing insights and progress updates.
  5. Resource Development:

    • Assist in the creation and adaptation of learning resources to meet the diverse needs of students with SEN.
    • Work with teachers to develop and implement differentiated instructional strategies.
  6. Personal Care:

    • Provide personal care assistance when required, ensuring the safety and well-being of students.
    • Follow established protocols for medical and health-related support.
  7. Professional Development:

    • Engage in ongoing professional development to stay informed about best practices in SEN education.
    • Attend relevant training sessions and workshops to enhance skills and knowledge.

Qualifications and Requirements:

  • Relevant qualifications in education, childcare, or special education.
  • Previous experience working with children with special educational needs is desirable.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Patience, empathy, and a genuine passion for supporting the educational development of children with SEN.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a team and take direction from the SEN Coordinator or Class Teacher.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
