A supportive secondary school in the Durham area is looking for a 1:1 SEMH Support Assistant to work closely with a student who needs help managing emotions, staying focused, and navigating daily routines. You’ll be that trusted adult they can rely on when things feel overwhelming, and you’ll work with a team who genuinely backs their staff.
What you’ll be doing

Providing 1:1 support for a pupil with social, emotional, and mental health needs

Helping them regulate emotions, build confidence, and stay engaged in learning

Working closely with pastoral staff, behaviour leads, and the SENCO
-
Supporting routines, transitions, and positive behaviour strategies
-
Encouraging independence and celebrating progress, big and small
What we’re looking for

Experience supporting young people with SEMH or behavioural needs

A calm, patient, and encouraging approach

Someone confident with de-escalation, positive behaviour support, and building trust

Strong communication skills and the ability to stay steady in challenging moments
