Data & MIS Office

 Full Time 37.5 hours per week, Term Time + INSET Days + 3 Weeks

 

We are seeking a highly organised and detail-oriented Data & MIS Officer to join our school. This key role is responsible for maintaining accurate and secure student and school data, ensuring it is used effectively to inform decision-making and support student achievement. You will manage the school’s Management Information System (MIS), oversee statutory reporting, and provide guidance and training to staff on data systems.

As the Data & MIS Officer, you will provide crucial analytical support to the Senior Leadership Team and teaching staff, enabling evidence-based planning, monitoring of student progress, and smooth operation of the school’s data processes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee the accuracy, integrity, and maintenance of all data held in Arbor and other MIS platforms.

  • Manage system permissions, user access, and provide training to staff on MIS use and data analysis.

  • Monitor academic performance and produce reports to support SLT, Subject Leaders, and Governors.

  • Manage statutory returns such as the school census, ensuring compliance and accuracy.

  • Support assessment reporting and communicate grades to parents in line with school policy.

  • Maintain accurate student records, including admissions and enrolment data.

  • Assist with timetabling, options processes, and smooth academic year transitions.

  • Record and analyse attendance data, supporting interventions for persistent absenteeism.

  • Collaborate across administrative teams and provide ad hoc reporting, certificates, and mail merges.

  • Advise staff on best practices for using MIS tools and promote digital systems for data analysis.

Person Specification

Qualifications & Training:

  • GCSE Maths and English at grade C/4 or above (or equivalent).

  • Evidence of ongoing professional development.

  • Degree or relevant qualification in data management, IT, or education (desirable).

  • Training in the use of school MIS (e.g., SIMS, Arbor, or Bromcom) (desirable).

Experience:

  • Proven experience managing data in an educational or administrative setting.

  • Experience producing reports and analysing data for performance tracking.

  • Familiarity with statutory returns such as school census and DfE reporting.

  • Experience in a secondary school environment and supporting staff with MIS use (desirable).

Knowledge & Skills:

  • High proficiency in Microsoft Excel and confidence with data systems.

  • Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and accuracy.

  • Excellent organisational and time management abilities.

  • Understanding of data protection regulations (GDPR) and safeguarding principles.

  • Knowledge of UK education performance measures (e.g., Progress 8) (desirable).
