The School – located in Tower Hamlets
The school are looking to appoint an experienced, highly motivated, and enthusiastic individual with a real desire and commitment for teaching children with SEN.
Although they are looking for SEN teacher, they are open to teachers from a mainstream background who may have taught SEN children in a mainstream class, or if you have taught in a separate SEN provision. Limited experience of SEN is still considered.
Ideally, you will have outstanding interpersonal and behaviour management skills, have high expectations, and be fully committed to supporting opportunities for students with Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs).
Class sizes are limited to a maximum of 8 students with multiple teaching assistants, so you would be teaching far fewer students then if you were in a mainstream school, which subsequently means less marking and planning but also means you have a more intimate and personal teacher to learner experience. Feedback from teachers who convert from mainstream to SEN settings often find the role much more fulfilling and rewarding.
Your planning will take into account the diversity of needs and abilities within each teaching group, and you will have a good understanding of engagement of students, assessment and monitoring student progress.
In addition, we find Teachers with a creative background work particularly well within a SEN Setting, because creative teaching works with the sensory needs of the students. SEN schools often use art and music-based therapies and activities to development the students.
The learning style in a SEN setting is more vocational then academic, from swimming to trampolining, gardening to spending time in a sensory room.
Previous experience of working with Autism, Specific learning difficulties, SEMH or challenging behaviour is highly desirable but not essential and applications from Teachers currently in mainstream settings are greatly encouraged.
Furthermore, Protocol Education are currently holding several CPD training courses which can be beneficial if you are trying to gain Special Educational Need experience.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
