Psychology Graduate Teaching Assistant – SEN and SEMH (Peterlee)

We are seeking a Psychology Graduate Teaching Assistant to join a specialist education setting in the Peterlee area, supporting children with social, emotional and mental health needs and additional learning needs.
This role is ideal for a psychology graduate looking to gain hands-on experience working with children who require emotional support, structure and positive relationships to thrive in education.
You will work closely with teaching staff and pastoral teams to support pupils who may display challenging behaviour, emotional dysregulation or difficulties engaging with learning.
Key responsibilities:
• Supporting pupils on a 1:1 and small-group basis
• Helping pupils regulate emotions and behaviour throughout the school day
• Supporting learning activities under the guidance of the class teacher
• Observing and responding to pupils’ emotional and behavioural needs
• Encouraging positive routines, resilience and self-confidence
• Supporting pupils during transitions, break times and structured interventions
This role would suit someone who:
• Holds a degree in Psychology or a related field
• Is interested in educational psychology, clinical psychology or child mental health
• Is calm, reflective and emotionally resilient
• Understands that behaviour is often a form of communication
• Wants meaningful experience in a specialist education setting

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
