Psychology Graduate – Pastoral & SEMH Support (Secondary)

Location: Wallsend, North Tyneside
Daily Pay: £90–£110

Protocol Education is recruiting a Psychology Graduate to work in a well-established and inclusive secondary school in the Wallsend area of North Tyneside.

This role is ideal for graduates considering a future career in educational psychology, counselling, mental health, social work or teaching. The school supports students aged 11–18 and places a strong emphasis on wellbeing, emotional resilience and positive relationships. It is easily accessible via public transport, with regular bus routes from Newcastle and surrounding areas.

About the role:
As a Psychology Graduate, you will work closely with pastoral teams, SEN staff and teaching colleagues to support students who experience social, emotional or behavioural barriers to learning. You will help pupils develop emotional regulation strategies, improve engagement and build confidence both inside and outside the classroom.

Key responsibilities:

  • Providing 1:1 and small-group SEMH support

  • Supporting students with anxiety, low mood, behaviour or attendance challenges

  • Assisting with pastoral interventions and wellbeing programmes

  • Monitoring student progress and feeding back to staff

  • Acting as a consistent, trusted adult for vulnerable learners

This role would suit someone who:

  • Holds a Psychology degree or related qualification

  • Is empathetic, resilient and calm under pressure

  • Has an interest in child mental health or behaviour support

  • Wants hands-on experience in a secondary school environment

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
