Primary Teacher with SEMH Experience needed for September

A SEMH Primary Unit supporting KS1 and KS2 located in Witham are looking for a Primary Teacher who is either experienced or interested in supporting students with SEMH. This school supports young people who have foudn it difficult to be successful in mainstream school. The ideal candidate will be creative, resilient and committed to supporting students with Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs as well as Moderate Learning Difficulties and Medically unwell pupils often with a range of neurodiversities. 

 

Students are taught in small groups and study the core curriculum as well as this they are provided with varied extended curriculum opportunities ranging from music therapy, targeted literacy intervention and horse riding among many others. The small class groups benefit students and enable them to make good progress as staff can ensure that learning is tailored to individual student needs. 

Job Duties 

  • Plan, prepare and deliver engaging lessons to primary school students with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs
  • Assess and monitor student progress, providing feedback and support to help them achieve academic and personal development goals
  • Create a positive and inclusive learning environment that promotes emotional well-being and supports the social needs of students
  • Collaborate with school staff, parents, and external professionals to develop individualised education plans for students with SEMH challenges
  • Manage challenging behaviour effectively, implementing appropriate strategies and interventions to support students' emotional regulation

Required Qualifications

  •  QTS - Qualified Teacher Status 
  • Specialist training or experience in supporting students with SEMH needs.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Postgraduate qualification in Special Educational Needs or related field 
  • Training in theraputic approaches for supporting students with SEMH difficulties
