Teaching Assistant – Gateshead (PMLD Specialism)

Position: Full-time Teaching Assistant (Profound & Multiple Learning Difficulties)
Location: Gateshead (willingness to travel between sites if required)
Hours: 37 hours per week, term time plus inset days

Role overview
You will support pupils with profound and multiple learning difficulties, contributing to a safe, predictable and stimulating learning environment. You’ll work closely with class teams to deliver structured routines, assist with communication and sensory needs, and support pupils to access the full curriculum.

Key responsibilities

  • Work with pupils with PMLD, providing high levels of adult support, personal care, communication and sensory input.

  • Support structured routines, visual communication aids and sensory breaks.

  • Assist in implementing individual learning plans and adapting tasks to pupil need.

  • Collaborate with therapy and support staff, and liaise with families as needed.

  • Uphold safeguarding and promote dignity, independence and inclusion for all pupils.

Person specification

  • Experience (or strong interest) working with children with PMLD, ASC or SLD.

  • Calm, resilient, observant with good interpersonal skills.

  • Willingness to travel between locations if necessary.

  • Enhanced DBS (child & adult) or willingness to obtain.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
