About the Role

We are seeking a dedicated and empathetic PMLD Teaching Assistant to join our specialist school supporting pupils with profound and multiple learning disabilities. This is a deeply rewarding role where you’ll help students access learning, communication, and care in a nurturing and inclusive environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide 1:1 and small group support for pupils with complex physical, sensory, and cognitive needs
  • Assist with personal care, feeding, and mobility routines
  • Use Makaton, PECS, or AAC to support communication
  • Implement individual learning plans and therapy programmes in collaboration with teachers and therapists
  • Create a calm, sensory-rich learning environment
  • Monitor and record progress, behaviour, and wellbeing

Essential Requirements

  • Experience supporting children or adults with PMLD, complex needs, or disabilities
  • Comfortable with personal care and manual handling
  • Patient, nurturing, and emotionally resilient
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills
  • Commitment to safeguarding and inclusive education

Desirable Qualifications

  • Manual Handling, Hoist, or Moving & Handling training
  • Knowledge of sensory integration or physiotherapy techniques
  • CACHE Level 2/3 or equivalent in Supporting Teaching and Learning
  • Experience in special schools or care settings

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
