A specialist school in Gateshead is looking for a Pastoral Support Assistant who can bring calm, consistency, and genuine care to pupils who need a little extra support throughout the day. The school provides a nurturing environment for young people with a range of additional needs, and they are hoping to welcome someone who can help pupils feel safe, understood, and ready to learn.

This role is ideal for someone who enjoys building positive relationships, supporting wellbeing, and being a steady presence when pupils face challenges. You’ll be part of a supportive team that works closely together to create routines that help pupils grow in confidence.

What you’ll be doing as a Pastoral Support Assistant 

  • Providing pastoral support to pupils who may need help navigating difficult moments.

  • Building trusting, positive relationships to help pupils feel settled and supported.

  • Working one-to-one or in small groups to promote emotional regulation and resilience.

  • Supporting teachers and pastoral staff with wellbeing plans and behaviour strategies.

  • Encouraging communication, confidence, and positive decision-making.

  • Someone with good communication skills and a warm, supportive approach.

  • The ability to stay composed during challenging situations.

  • Experience in pastoral work, youth support, or SEND is helpful but not essential, as full guidance will be provided.
