The role

A well-established secondary school in Northumberland is seeking a Pastoral Mentor to support pupils across KS3–KS5. The school places a strong emphasis on behaviour standards, attendance, and student wellbeing, and is looking for a confident professional who can provide consistent pastoral guidance and intervention.

This is a key role within the wider pastoral team, supporting pupils who may require additional guidance around behaviour, engagement, or emotional regulation.

Key responsibilities

  • Provide 1:1 and small group pastoral support

  • Support pupils with attendance, behaviour, or SEMH needs

  • Implement behaviour plans and restorative approaches

  • Liaise with Heads of Year, SENCO and safeguarding leads

  • Monitor progress and maintain accurate records

The ideal candidate

  • Experience working with young people in education, care, or youth settings

  • Strong behaviour management and de-escalation skills

  • Calm, consistent and professional approach

  • Confident building positive relationships with pupils and families

  • Enhanced DBS (or willingness to obtain one)
