The role

A large and well-established secondary school in Northumberland is seeking a Pastoral Mentor to support pupils across KS3–KS5. The school has a strong focus on wellbeing, personal development, and high expectations, and is looking for a confident professional who can provide targeted pastoral and behavioural support.

This role is ideal for someone experienced in supporting young people with SEMH needs, attendance concerns, or behavioural challenges within a structured secondary environment.

Key responsibilities

  • Provide 1:1 and small group pastoral support

  • Support pupils with SEMH, behaviour, or attendance needs

  • Work closely with Heads of Year, SENCO and safeguarding teams

  • Promote positive behaviour strategies and restorative approaches

  • Monitor progress and maintain accurate records

The ideal candidate

  • Experience working with young people in education, youth work, care or similar settings

  • Strong behaviour management and de-escalation skills

  • Calm, consistent and professional approach

  • Confident liaising with staff and external agencies

  • Enhanced DBS (or willingness to obtain one)
