We’re supporting a fantastic special school in Gateshead that’s looking for a Pastoral Care Assistant to join their dedicated wellbeing team. The school is warm, welcoming, and full of staff who care deeply about giving every pupil the chance to feel secure, understood, and ready to learn.

What you’ll be doing

  • Supporting pupils with social, emotional, and behavioural needs

  • Providing calm, one-to-one and small-group pastoral support

  • Helping pupils develop emotional regulation, confidence, and positive routines

  • Working closely with the safeguarding, SEN, and behaviour teams

  • Being a familiar, reassuring presence around school, from morning check-ins to end-of-day reflections

  • Helping create a safe, structured environment where every child feels seen and supported

The school is hoping to find someone who

  • Has experience working with vulnerable young people or those with SEND

  • Brings kindness, patience, and strong emotional intelligence

  • Can stay calm under pressure and support pupils through challenging moments

  • Has a natural ability to build rapport and earn trust

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
