About the role

We are looking for an experienced Level 3 Teaching Assistant to join a specialist primary school supporting pupils aged 2-11 who have a range of severe and complex needs (SLD, PMLD, autism, etc.). You will take on significant responsibility within class settings and small groups, leading learning activities, supporting therapeutic interventions, and helping deliver programmes designed to enhance communication, independence, physical and emotional development.


Key Responsibilities

  • Plan and deliver learning - group or individual sessions under guidance of teachers / senior staff

  • Lead behaviour support strategies and support pupils through emotional / behavioural challenges

  • Work with therapists and other external professionals to implement strategies (e.g. communication, mobility, sensory programmes)

  • Contribute to assessment, monitoring and reporting of pupil progress, including contributions to EHCP reviews

  • Support newer or less experienced staff / teaching assistants when needed


Person Specification

  • Proven experience working in a SEND or specialist setting, ideally with pupils who have SLD, PMLD or ASC

  • Strong understanding of communication aids, sensory needs, behaviour management techniques

  • Excellent interpersonal / communication skills, ability to build rapport with pupils, parents, carers and staff

  • Ability to work independently when required, make judgements and adapt to individual pupil needs
