A specialist school in Gateshead is looking for a Learning Support Assistant to join their friendly, supportive team. The school works with pupils who have a range of additional needs, and they’re hoping to find someone who can offer patience, encouragement, and a calm presence throughout the day.

This role is perfect for someone who enjoys helping children feel settled, confident, and ready to learn. You’ll work closely with teachers and support staff to create routines that help pupils feel safe, while offering steady guidance during lessons and activities.

What you’ll be doing as a learning support assistant 

  • Supporting pupils during lessons, group activities, and individual tasks.

  • Helping to create a positive, consistent learning environment that suits each pupil’s needs.

  • Assisting teachers with adapted activities and personalised learning approaches.

  • Building trusting relationships with pupils and offering reassurance whenever needed.

Requirements 

  • A caring and patient individual who genuinely enjoys supporting young people.

  • Good communication skills and a willingness to follow guidance from staff.

  • Someone reliable, adaptable, and happy to work as part of a wider team.

  • Experience is welcome but not essential, as the school provides training and support for the right person.
