Teaching Assistants Needed in Patchway – No School Experience Required

If you’re someone young people naturally gravitate towards, the kind of person who can stay calm when things get lively and offer encouragement when someone needs it most, this could be the perfect next step for you.

We’re supporting a large, inclusive secondary school in the Patchway area that’s looking for full-time Teaching Assistants. This school champions every type of learner, from pupils with additional needs to young people who’ve recently arrived in the UK. They’re warm, community-minded and genuinely committed to giving every student the chance to thrive.

You don’t need school experience. You just need to care, communicate well and be up for learning on the job.

What you’ll be doing day to day

Think of this as a role where no two days look the same. You might find yourself:

  • Supporting teachers in the classroom and helping pupils stay on track

  • Running small-group sessions that build confidence and help students catch up

  • Working one-to-one with a young person who needs extra reassurance or structure

  • Helping pupils from overseas settle into school life and feel part of the community

  • Working alongside a brilliant specialist SEN team who support pupils with a wide range of needs

Some days are busy, some are steady, most are rewarding in ways you don’t always expect.

Who this role is ideal for

You don’t have to walk in with school expertise. Many brilliant TAs start out in roles like:

  • Youth work

  • Social care or family support

  • Sports coaching

  • Mentoring

  • Customer service or community roles

  • Volunteering with young people

If you’ve ever been the steady voice in a tricky moment, the person friends trust for advice or the one who can break down a problem calmly, you’ve already got the foundations of a great TA.

Graduates and psychology students do particularly well here, especially if you’re curious about behaviour, wellbeing or the education sector.

Why this Patchway school is a great place to start

This setting has:

  • A large, established SEN support unit with plenty of guidance and teamwork

  • A wonderfully diverse pupil community including many EAL learners

  • Staff who genuinely look after each other

  • A leadership team committed to pastoral care

  • A strong sense of local community and pride

It’s the kind of school where new staff are welcomed, supported and encouraged to grow.
