Learning Support Assistant

About the role

We are seeking a compassionate, reliable Learning Support Assistant to join a team dedicated to supporting pupils with complex needs, including severe learning difficulties, autism, communication disorders and other associated needs. You will support class teachers in delivering personalised learning activities, help maintain a calm, safe learning environment, and assist pupils with their day-to-day care and communication needs.


Key Responsibilities

  • Support pupils in accessing the curriculum, both in class and in small group settings

  • Assist with personal care, feeding, mobility, toileting etc where required

  • Help with implementing communication support strategies (e.g. Makaton / symbols / visual aids)

  • Participate in activities designed to develop social, emotional and independence skills

  • Work alongside multidisciplinary professionals and liaise with staff to support individual Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs)


Person Specification

  • Previous experience working with children with special educational needs (SEND) or in care / support settings is desirable

  • Patience, resilience, excellent communication skills and a caring nature

  • Confidence using or willingness to learn alternative communication methods

  • Ability to work flexibly and as part of a team

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
