Learning Support Assistant
We’re working with a large, inclusive secondary school in west Newcastle that is well known locally for its strong pastoral culture, clear behaviour systems, and commitment to student wellbeing.
The school supports a diverse intake of pupils, including those with SEND and SEMH needs, and places real value on the role Learning Support Assistants play in helping young people feel safe, regulated, and able to engage with learning.

The role
As a Learning Support Assistant, you will:

Provide 1:1 and small-group support for pupils who need additional help to access learning

Support students with SEND, SEMH, and behavioural needs, particularly during lessons, transitions, and unstructured times

Help pupils regulate emotions, build confidence, and engage positively in school life
-
Work closely with teachers, SENCOs, and pastoral staff to maintain a calm, supportive learning environment

Be a consistent, trusted adult presence for students who benefit from structure and reassurance
We’re looking for someone who:

Has experience working with children or young people (schools, care, youth work, support work, or similar)

Brings patience, empathy, and resilience to their work

Understands that behaviour is communication
-
Is reliable, calm under pressure, and committed to safeguarding
-
Is happy to work PAYE and values transparency around pay
School-based experience is helpful, but not essential – the right attitude and willingness to learn matter most.
Pay & contract

£90–£110 per day, depending on experience
