Learning Support Assistant – Alternative Provision

About the Role

We are looking for a dedicated Learning Support Assistant to join a specialist alternative education setting in South Shields. The setting supports children and young people who require a personalised, flexible approach to learning due to social, emotional or behavioural needs.

You will work closely with teaching staff to support pupils’ academic progress while also helping them develop emotional regulation, confidence and positive routines.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide tailored 1:1 and small group learning support.

  • Support pupils with emotional regulation and engagement strategies.

  • Assist with the delivery of personalised learning plans.

  • Encourage positive behaviour and social development.

  • Build strong, trusting relationships with pupils.

  • Support pupils throughout the school day, including transitions.

Skills & Experience

  • Experience working with children or young people in education or care.

  • Understanding of SEMH or behavioural needs is desirable.

  • Calm, patient and resilient approach.

  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
