A welcoming SEND school in Gateshead is looking for a kind, patient and confident KS1 Autism Support Practitioner to join their team. If you love helping young children feel safe, understood and ready to learn, you’ll thrive in this role.

About the role

You’ll support KS1 pupils with autism who benefit from a consistent, nurturing approach. Every day is a blend of structure, gentle encouragement and meaningful connection.

Your day will include:

  • 1:1 and small-group support for children with autism

  • Helping pupils with communication, sensory needs and emotional regulation

  • Using visual timetables and structured routines

  • Supporting learning through play and practical activities

  • Working closely with teachers, SENCO and therapy staff

  • Celebrating progress, no matter how small

Who the school is hoping for

  • Calm, caring and great at building trust

  • Confident supporting children with SEND or keen to learn

  • Patient, observant and responsive to individual needs

  • A positive, reliable team player with strong communication skills

Experience in SEND or early years is a bonus, but transferable experience from care, nursery settings or youth work is valuable too.
