An excellent SEND school in Gateshead is looking for a caring, calm and confident KS1 Autism Support Practitioner to join their team. If you love helping young children feel safe, understood and ready to learn, this role could be the perfect match for you.

About the role

You’ll be supporting KS1 pupils with autism who need structure, patience and consistent, nurturing support throughout their school day. You’ll help them make sense of routines, develop independence and access learning at a pace that works for them.

Your day may include:

  • 1:1 and small group support for children with autism

  • Using visual aids, routines and sensory strategies

  • Supporting emotional regulation and communication

  • Working closely with teachers, therapists and the SENCO

  • Celebrating every small win, because they all matter

What the school is looking for

Someone who is:

  • Calm, compassionate and able to build instant trust

  • Experienced supporting children with autism, or confident learning on the job

  • Patient, observant and brilliant at following structured approaches

  • A solid team player who communicates clearly and stays positive

Experience in SEND, early years, youth work, care or similar environments is very welcome.
