About the Role

We are looking for a Teaching Assistant who has experience of providing health care support to pupils (medical or health-related needs). In this specialist setting in Sunderland, the role involves assisting pupils not only academically but also supporting their health and well-being during the school day. You will work with staff and external care or medical agencies to ensure pupils with health needs are safe, comfortable and able to participate fully in school life.


Key Responsibilities

  • Administer or support with medication or health care routines as required, under supervision or following training and protocols

  • Assist pupils with health needs in daily routines, ensuring safety, dignity, and comfort

  • Support learning and engagement for pupils alongside care duties

  • Liaise with health professionals, staff and parents/caregivers to follow care plans

  • Observe and report any health or wellbeing concerns promptly


Person Specification

  • Prior experience in a health care role, supporting children with medical or health-related needs

  • Awareness of medical protocols, safeguarding and confidentiality

  • Compassion, calmness, attention to detail, and ability to follow instructions precisely

  • Good communication skills to liaise with staff, health professionals and families

  • DBS clearance or willingness to obtain, and relevant health/first aid training desirable
