Protocol Education are looking for confident Graduates to work as a Teaching Assistant in Secondary Schools across Newcastle, North Tyneside, Gateshead, Sunderland and South Tyneside. The school has an incredible team of excellent teachers and support staff who genuinely care for the students and a fantastic group of young people who have a great love for the school.

You will be supporting children 1:1 or in small groups with Special Educational Needs and Disabilites (SEND), some of who will have challenging behaviours. You will ensure that the pupils can integrate as fully as possible in the activities generally undertaken by the other children in the class and make progress. This is a fantastic opportunity for any graduate considering a career in teaching or educational psychology.

The key responsibilites:

  • You will be expected to accompany and support children in all their lessons, including English and Maths.
  • You will provide pastoral support and work under the direction of the classroom teacher.
  • You will be responsible for implementing the targets on the pupils Individual Education Plan (IEP).
  • To develop knowledge of the particular needs of the children and seek advice from the SENCo, class teacher and outside agencies as required.
  • Providing positive reinforcements, praise and rewards to pupils.

Requirements:

  • Hold a university degree 
  • Be able to work Monday-Friday (full-time)
  • Have the Right to Work in the UK 
  • A good level of numeracy and literacy is required, but in-depth subject knowledge in any area is not essential. We are looking for personality and transferable skills.
