Graduate Teaching Assistant and Cover Supervisor
Full-time | Secondary Schools
Wakefield, North Leeds and Central Leeds

Thinking about teaching, but want proper classroom experience first? This role is made for you.

We’re working with a group of supportive secondary schools across Wakefield, North Leeds and Central Leeds who are looking for graduates to step into a hybrid Teaching Assistant and Cover Supervisor role. It’s a full-time position that gives you hands-on experience supporting pupils and leading whole classes, without being thrown in at the deep end.

You’ll be part of the school team, getting to know the pupils, routines, and staff, and building the confidence future teachers need before training.

What the role looks like

  • Supporting pupils in lessons as a Teaching Assistant, including SEN and pastoral support

  • Stepping up as a Cover Supervisor when needed, delivering pre-set work and keeping learning on track

  • Working across KS3 and KS4

  • Building strong classroom presence and behaviour management skills

  • Being a familiar, trusted face in school, not a different place every day

Why this role is great for future teachers

  • Real classroom leadership experience, without lesson planning

  • A brilliant insight into secondary school life

  • Strong preparation for PGCE, SCITT, or Schools Direct routes

  • Confidence-building, practical, and genuinely rewarding

What schools are looking for

  • A graduate with a genuine interest in education

  • Confident communicators who can engage young people

  • Calm, organised, and ready to step up when needed

  • Experience with young people is helpful, but not essential

What you’ll get through Protocol Education

  • Weekly PAYE pay, no umbrella companies

  • FREE access to our online CPD Academy

  • Ongoing support from a dedicated, local consultant

  • Long-term opportunities in schools that value graduates
