About the School:
We are a successful and inclusive secondary school in Gateshead with a strong focus on practical learning and student engagement. Our Food Technology department plays a vital role in developing students’ life skills, nutritional knowledge, and confidence in food preparation. We are seeking a motivated and enthusiastic Food Technician to join our supportive Design & Technology team.
The Food Technician Role:
This is an exciting opportunity for a qualified teacher, nutrition graduate, or experienced catering professional who is passionate about food education and working with young people. The successful candidate will support the delivery of high-quality Food Technology lessons and contribute to a safe, engaging learning environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support and deliver practical Food Technology lessons at Key Stages 3 and 4.
- Prepare ingredients, equipment, and resources for practical sessions.
- Maintain food hygiene, health & safety, and risk assessments in line with school policies.
- Support students during practical lessons, encouraging safe and effective working practices.
- Assist teaching staff with lesson preparation, demonstrations, and classroom organisation.
- Manage stock, ordering, and storage of food and equipment.
- Contribute to enrichment activities, clubs, or events related to food, nutrition, or catering.
Who We’re Looking For:
We welcome applications from candidates with a range of backgrounds, including:
- A degree or qualification in Nutrition, Food Science, Food Technology, or a related subject.
- Catering, hospitality, or food industry professionals with relevant practical experience.
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) with experience teaching Food Technology.
