Secondary English Teacher – Maternity Cover (ECTs & FQTs welcome)
Location: South Bristol Secondary School
Start date: February
Contract: Maternity cover
Pay: Pay to Scale (M1 to M6)

Are you an Early Career Teacher or a fully qualified English teacher ready to put your PGCE into action in a supportive secondary school?

We’re working with a welcoming BS6 secondary school looking for an enthusiastic English teacher to step into a maternity cover role from February. This is a brilliant opportunity to build confidence, settle into one school and really get to know your classes, without the pressure of a permanent contract - maternity cover offers networking and flexibility. When your maternity role ends, Protocool Education garuntees other placements (day-to-day and long-term) in another of our partner schools.

You’ll be joining a friendly English department that values fresh ideas, strong relationships and calm, consistent teaching.

Why this role is a great next step
• Teach in one school, with continuity and routine
• Build confidence across KS3 and KS4 English
• Gain hands-on experience that strengthens your CV fast
• Feel supported by a school that understands ECT and FQT journeys
• Weekly PAYE pay and access to ongoing CPD

Your role
• Teaching English across KS3 and KS4, including literature, language and GCSE preparation
• Delivering engaging lessons that follow the department’s plans and schemes
• Creating a positive, focused classroom where pupils feel supported
• Working closely with the English team and wider school staff

Who we’re looking for
• ECTs and FQTs with a PGCE
• Confident communicators with a love of English
• Teachers keen to learn, reflect and grow
• Professionals who bring warmth, energy and consistency to the classroom

Why maternity cover works so well
Maternity roles offer the best of both worlds. You get stability, relationships and real impact, while gaining experience that often leads to longer-term opportunities. It’s a brilliant way to explore school life, strengthen your practice and decide what you want next.
