Job Title: English Teacher (SEMH Setting)

Protocol Education are working with a SEMH school in the Swindon area who are looking to employ a new English Teacher. 

This specialist SEMH provision supports young people who have struggled to thrive in mainstream education. The focus is on early intervention, re-engagement, and helping students rebuild confidence in learning and in themselves.

Students are supported through small classes, personalised pathways and a strong pastoral approach. The aim is simple but powerful, to help young people reset, rebuild and move forward, both academically and emotionally.

The Role

We’re looking for a compassionate and resilient English Teacher who understands that progress looks different for every learner.

You’ll be teaching English across Key Stages 3 and 4, working with pupils who may have experienced barriers to education, including social, emotional and mental health needs. This role is as much about relationships as it is about subject knowledge.


What You’ll Be Doing

  • Delivering engaging, differentiated English lessons tailored to individual needs

  • Supporting literacy development, confidence and communication skills

  • Creating a calm, structured and nurturing classroom environment

  • Using strong, consistent behaviour management strategies rooted in empathy

  • Working closely with pastoral staff, SEN teams and external professionals

  • Contributing to personalised learning plans and tracking progress meaningfully


What We’re Looking For

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS or equivalent)

  • English specialism, with experience teaching up to GCSE level

  • Confident behaviour management and a trauma-informed approach

  • Patience, empathy and emotional intelligence

  • A genuine passion for supporting young people with SEMH needs

  • Flexibility, resilience and a team-first mindset
